What is Quality of Life?

An extensive Google search reveals that it is whatever you want it to be. For our purpose we define it as:

That sense of well being resulting from the interaction and balance of (in alphabetical order) education, environment, health, location, relationships, religion, safety, and wealth.

Some of the factors may be more important to you than others. There is NO magic formula. It is all a BALANCE. Give up one thing to gain another. For some of us, education is the highest "need". We might give up wealth to satisfy this "need" for excellent education. For some it may be location (near health facilities, etc.). Maybe we are willing to give up location to satisfy a "need: of being close to a particular health facility. We all have different "needs". The more we can satisfy these needs the better our "Quality of Life".

We in Blue Springs are blessed with a basic Quality of Life that many communities can only dream of. Our school district is more than top-notch. It is nationally ranked as one of the best (academics as well as athletics). St. Mary's Hospital provides medical resources far and above what we should expect for a city of our size. Central Jackson County Fire Protection District is a national model of how good a Fire Department can be (check the fire insurance ratings). The Parks and Recreation Department is continually being cited for being a leader in providing and maintaining recreation facilities. The Streets Department is to be highly commended for all they have to do with the budget they have been given. Our religious community is continually and effectively reaching out to those in need, spiritually as well as materially.

Our Quality of Life was good but it is changing, and not for the better.
