With great speed and efficiency, the City has come through.  We have the documents the City agreed to produce.  We are pleased that the city responded swiftly and with professionalism.  City staff is to be commended for the competence it demonstrated in this large request.  The actual costs were less than the projected costs, so we will be receiving a refund check of $642.30.  Pictures were taken when Norm Marvel of The Marvel Group picked up the documents on behalf of A Better Blue Springs.  We hope the City will share the pictures for us to post on our website.

It will take some time to peruse the information.  As we come across items of interest to the citizens of Blue Springs, we will of course post on the website.  Thank you for your interest.  And remember to sign up for updates!!

WE HAVE CONTACT!!

Today we received a letter from the City of Blue Springs acknowledging our request for information and their responsibility to provide it.  Mr. McDonald, the City Attorney, outlined the City’s legislative right to charge actual costs for copies plus an amount “which represents the City’s actual cost for personnel securing said document’s duplication based on costs of salary and benefits to the City for the custodian … who secures the duplicates.”  The City has determined the related costs for our requests to be $2,691.24.  Certified funds were delivered to City Hall this afternoon to expedite processing.  Mr. McDonald has made assurances that we will receive a detailed accounting of funds upon completion of processing.

We will be processing Mr. McDonald’s response as soon as practical.  As documents are received from the City and reviewed, we will update the website accordingly.

We wish to thank all who have submitted email responses to our website.  We are amazed at the response.  Due to the high volume, we are not able to answer each question individually in an expeditious manner.  Instead, we will address questions in order of prevalence.  Many of your questions are slightly premature, in that we are inundated with information to post.  As new information is verified and added, you will be advised.  Many of your questions will be answered as the website is updated.

By far, the most prevalent question is “WHO ARE YOU?”  While we appreciate the curiosity, our internal timeline dictates that our Chairs will be announced later this week.  The circumstances for the delay are unfortunate, but necessary at this time.  Generically, we are a private organization of concerned citizens from many walks of life, many of whom are private people who do not crave the limelight, but are concerned about the hidden truths of our city.  Once we do announce our Chairs, the credibility of the organization will be self-evident.

It has been SIX days since our original information request. Still no response.

We are A Better Blue Springs.  We are residents who believe that many of our fellow citizens feel disconnected from the forces that mold our fair city.  We believe that a better quality of life depends upon a balance of many aspects including faith, education, environment, health, safety, relationships and prosperity.  Decisions are often made which affect your quality of life.  These decisions are made without your input.  Some decisions are made without the opportunity of your input.  We believe that knowledge is powerful and only with full knowledge can you make the best decisions for you and your family.

In an effort to clarify answers to questions, we have requested many pieces of information from our city, our police department and our local courts under the Freedom of Information Act.  Copies of these requests can be found on our website. www.abetterbluesprings.org

It has been FIVE days since our original request.  We can only assume that they are busy working diligently on these unusual requests.  Our website will be updated as soon as we receive communication from these groups.
