Work
Blue Springs is a great place live, work and raise a
family. For those who choose to remain in the community to earn a
living—or supplement the family income—during the day, the options
are very limited. These options might not be so limited if there had
been greater emphasis on attracting a variety of businesses to Blue
Springs.
Some in the community claim that they like our status as a “bedroom”
community, meaning that most people live here but work elsewhere.
However, we believe that the availability of a variety of
occupations also enhances the balance needed for a positive quality
of life. Those who are fortunate enough to work in Blue Springs
spend less money traveling to work. They are safer because they
spend less time on the roads. They have more time to spend with
family and friends.
Keeping jobs in Blue Springs also adds money to the city coffers.
Through the city’s occupational license, businesses pay a fee for
each employee on their payroll. While the incremental amount is
modest, the cumulative effect on the budget would not be
insignificant. Focusing on attracting a variety of businesses with a
variety of jobs available to our citizens would only enhance our
quality of life.
